Masare is one of the oldest Somali tribes. They are the originals of the somalis and have established an empire that protected the somalis from foreign invasion including the Crusaders from Ethiopia. Mentioned in the book of conquest of Abyssinia, Masares have formed the largest military during the conquest. They have established cities like Harar, Seylaac, Erigabo, Muqdisho and Afgooye where the Gob Uroon dynasty which is part of the Masare sultanate controlled trades routes as far as Zanzibar.

The Masare sultanate is where many Somali people lineage backs, the Issa , the Isaaq, the Ogadenia, the Saransoor are all descendants of Masare tribe.  The Masare are descendants of Ansaar from Medina, came to Horn of Africa 1200 years ago to spread Islam among the somalis.
